An example of this for me is The Smiths. Several times I tried their music and I just shrugged at it. Then during a strong depressive slump in my life I heard There Is a Light That Never Goes Out and absolutely loved that song so I bought the entire The Queen is Dead album and loved every track and find Johnny Marr a genius guitarist.

Meghan Trainor. Could not stand her. Then I began to like her music.

When I was a kid I thought that most of the bands I heard on the radio or heard about online (Green Day, Evanescence, MCR, etc.) were bad because they were popular, and I used to pretty much think popular automatically meant bad. Then I actually gave those bands a chance and ended up really liking them. Some I became a huge fan of and saw live.
I also used to hate Linkin Park a bit because of all the screaming. They ended up becoming one of my favorite bands, and I even saw them live in 2011.

Of all of them in that list I guess I like MCR the most but I don't listen to any of them much. I don't dislike any of them either though.

David Bowie. Thought he was too outrageous then my friend William got me deeper into him and I realised what a genius he was. Jimi Hendrix for the same reason. Dusty Springfield. I now see what a great soulful voice she had. Lene Lovich. Her voice isn't too bad and some of her songs are quite decent. Siouxsie and the Banshees. They were highly original.

I actually still consider Evanescence to be my favorite band. I didn't get super into them until maybe ten years ago, but I've seen them live three times and they were actually the last band I ever saw live. Their music has changed quite a bit since their first album, they're still rock with darker lyrics, but their sound has definitely matured. They certainly don't write songs like Bring Me to Life anymore. They're actually coming out with a new album next year, their first completely new one since 2011. From what I've heard they're dropping the orchestral elements and going more towards just being rock. Which is a bit sad, but I still look forward to hearing it.

I used to hate Slipknot for ages but now I have their albums. Limp Bizkit, Iron Maiden, In Flames, Linkin Park are other notable ones I used to hate.

I used to not care for Taylor Swift much at all But then I met some irl friends who liked her a lot and they played some music of hers and I found it super catchy and sassy and upbeat and really enjoyed listening to her songs so much that I started listening to them at my apartment She is one of my favourite singers now. I also like that her fashion sense is super girly and she sings about romance a lot as well; and romance is a topic that interests me a lot ^_^ Also I think in the past I never gave her much chance because of one song I heard of hers that I disliked (you belong to me). I guess it triggered me cos it seemed bashy to girly girls or something? It was weird xD I think Taylor may of grew up more of a tomboy; but she is easily more girly by far now, and I doubt she hates girly people overall. So it’s silly I didn’t give her a chance over that song But I guess with what people put me through with stereo types in the past, I guess my ‘silliness’ was not to blame at the time…

katy perry.
when she came out with her first single I kissed a girl I wasn't a fan and would turn the radio off when ever she came on
later songs (hot and cold, waking up in vegas) were a lot better- and I now own 3 of her cds including the album with I kissed a girl on it, which isn't a bad song really, it just gets a little annoying after a while.
